At Cornerstone we believe that recovery needs to be physical, emotional and spiritual and that in order to help people live the way they were created to live, we need to support them in each of these areas.
Our fellowship meetings provide spiritual guidance and pastoral care, while our community work provides more practical support to those in need whilst incorporating these same core elements. A large part of this outreach involves us serving other Christian organisations such as Bexley Foodbank and Bexley Winter Shelter to identify and help address the needs of those in our community. An example of this would be assisting people when provided with accommodation.
We are well connected within the borough, particularly through Transform Bexley Borough (a network of the borough’s churches and Christian organisations), which helps us signpost people to services that are beyond our own provision. We have a heart for social restoration and are involved in a new programme that cares for ex-offenders in Bexley. Cornerstone also hope to establish some weekly drop-in sessions where anyone can come and chat with members of our team over a cup of tea.
Members of Cornerstone regularly support a local gardening project and our hope is to develop more social action opportunities for our fellowship to get involved in. Not only do we believe this will benefit our community but also aid people’s recovery through serving others. Our aim is to build relationships with each other, with those who live in our borough and the wider church.
We believe that as Christians we each have a part to play in building the Kingdom of God here on Earth and that we are a powerful force for Him when we act together as one body. We believe in the unity of believers through the Spirit and the collective call to be Jesus where we are.
